I - Introduction:
Hey everyone, Overseer here, bringing you my Glorious Ground team. Being busy with university work i haven't really had any time to ladder in a while. However recently I've had a surplus of free time and decided why not make a new team and test it on the ladder. I couldn't decide which type to use so i checked the usage stats. I was shocked to see that ground was in the bottom 6. Clearly people believed without smooth rock ground was bad. Hopefully this RMT will encourage people to use ground more.
II - Team Building Process:
Well, I started with the hippowdon excadrill core as i wanted to take advantage of excadrill's super cool sand rush ability alongside Hippowdons sandstream. Hippo was also a great defensive wall whilst excadrill helps with grass and ice moves.
The next big decision was who was going to be my water absorber. I decided that sesmitoad was a better choice than gastrodon as it posed more of an attacking threat. I now had water, grass and ice moves covered within reason.
I then thought, Mega chomp is needed. Sand force is a great ability and its also a very bulky mon that helps with water and grass moves,Further more it can run a mixed set amazingly well.
After adding mega chomp, I added the beastly Landorus. What a great mon. Life orb + sheer force is amazing. It was a no brainer to add this mon to the team.
Finally i was left with a massive choice gliscor, mamo, krook or zygarde. I decided to go with krook and i couldnt be any happier with my choice.
The Team:
H1ppo(Hippowdon) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Whirlwind
- Slack Off
Hippowdon is a great defensive wall. I normally lead with Hippo and use a move accordingly. For example if they lead with infernape i'd earthquake as they would normally use the taunt anti lead set. Eq would kill ape with sand stream assist. Hippos main job though is to keep the sand blowing. I normally sack other things to conserves this mon so it can assist in late game excadrill sweeps. Rocks + sand are great at chipping health and whirlwind helps get rid of annoying set up sweepers like mega gallade. Hippo is a great switch in to physical attackers with rocky helm helping to force those switches. I decided against using the special defence Hippo as i didnt really feel I needed it.
Lando(Landorus)@ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Earth Power
- Focus Blast
- Gravity
- Sludge Wave
Landorus. What can I say. Beast. He literally can 6-0 steel on his own. Earth Power is an amazing move as it can simple destroy teams. Focus blast (miss) is useful for mons like ferrothorn and cradily who can be very pesky on grass. I opted for gravity over Psychic as psychic isnt needed on ground. Keldeo outspeeds anyway and no other fighting mon is really a threat that cant be handled by sludge or earth power and poison mons are beaten by earth power and if need gravity. The last move is sludge wave as it rips fairies to shreds and also helps beat grass. If u really want to you can run calm mind or rock polish over gravity but i wouldnt recommend it.
Garchomp @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Earthquake
- Draco Meteor
- Stone Edge
- Fire Blast
Garchomps an amazing mon. In and out of sand its a force to be reckoned with. Earthquake is absolutely monstrous and can severely hurt teams. Draco meteor is for mons like slowbro who are weak special defensively and for dragons. I run fire blast mainly for skarm, ferro and scizor but ive also found its useful for steel and ice mons who can levitate or have balloons. Stone edge is a great move to have i just wish it missed less. A cool tip for using chomp is don't rush to mega it. As in pre mega form its faster and helps beat flying mons like char y. Also u can take advantage of rough skin to KO mons in pre mega form.
Seismitoad @ Assault Vest
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Grass Knot
- Scald
- Sludge Wave
Sesmitoads role is simple really, absord water and hit back hard. Earth power and Scald are amazing stab moves to have with good secondary effects. Sludgewave is very useful against grass and fairy types. Grass knot is great againnt water mons and other mean ground teams. I had to choose between specs and assault vest and decided on the vest as it helps me survive many situations i have no right surving. Sesmi>Gastro. :P
Excadrill @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
- Rock Slide
Click eq. Click iron head. Click rock slide. Simple as really. Its a very easyy mon to use. Band destroys all. What else should i write here tbh :/ Just dont sack it needlessly guys/gals.
Krookodile @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge/rock slide
- Superpower/Pursuit/fire fang
With the introducion of Hoopa u into the meta i thought it would be a great idea to add a dark mon to deal with psychic mons. Krook is perfect. Moxie is a wonderful ability that turns eq and knock off into sweeping moves. stone edge miss so much :( so use rock slide if you. The final move is up to you but i normally use superpower :)
Threats:
Azumarill- Easy to beat if u play right, sand + dual rough skins should be enough. Always lead with Lando vs Fairy!
Crawdaunt- Ye this is a problem. Adaptability + orb and aqua jet can cause problems. Just try to predict the sd and whirlwind it
otherwise its probably gna take out half your team.
Serperior- Leaf storm. Very fast. Contrary
Thundurus- Orb + grass knot and hp ice can be a problem wen its switching between skarm and mega gyra. You just gotta Predict the switches.
Keldeo- Sub CM can wreck.
Char y/Politoad- Makes excadrill slow :( Constant weather battles
Ditto- Steals excadrills op'ness and outspeeds :(
